Turn “maybe” into “this is it” at Lakeland College’s Open House on Oct. 16 and 17.
Future students and their families, high school groups and anyone interested in new career opportunities are invited to explore Lakeland’s Lloydminster and Vermilion campuses from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, getting an inside look at the 50-plus programs, people and spaces that make up the award-winning Lakeland experience.
“Open House gives future students the chance to experience Lakeland rather than just read about it,” says Dana Gard-Sweeney, supervisor of recruitment and enrolment at Lakeland. “They can meet the instructors they’ll learn from, see the labs, facilities and unique areas where that learning happens and ask the questions that matter to them. It’s a chance to really see themselves here and decide whether Lakeland is the right fit.”
Throughout the two-day event, visitors can also connect with current students and academic advisors, tour campus and explore Lakeland’s hands-on learning environments. Depending on the campus and program area, visitors can step inside labs, shops, studios and classrooms, visit residence and explore spaces such as the Student-Managed Farm – Powered by New Holland, the Energy Centre and other facilities where Lakeland students put their learning into practice.
Visitors can also:
- apply to Lakeland for free while on campus during Open House*;
- learn about programs, admission requirements and career opportunities;
- connect with student services and learn about supports available throughout their Lakeland journey;
- take home Lakeland swag and enter to win prizes.
With programs spanning agriculture, business, energy, environmental sciences, fire and emergency services, health and wellness, human services, interior design technology, trades and university transfer, Open House gives visitors the opportunity to explore their options — whether they already know where they’re headed or are still deciding what comes next. A recent survey found that 96 per cent of Lakeland graduates are satisfied with their program and 99 per cent of employers are likely to hire a Lakeland grad again in the future.
“Choosing a college and a program is a big decision and you don’t have to have everything figured out before you visit,” says Gard-Sweeney. “Come with your questions. Explore. Talk to people. You might arrive thinking ‘maybe’ and leave knowing, ‘this is it.’”
