Employment Skills Enhancement

Admission Requirements

If you are from Saskatchewan, you must:

• have a current Saskatchewan health card

• 18 years of age and out of school for one year; or

• 19 years of age

• come for an interview before you’re accepted into the program

If you are from Alberta, you must:

• be at least 18 years old

• have been out of school for at least one year

• have lived in Alberta for at least 3 months

• come for an interview before you’re accepted into the program

Employment Skills Enhancement

You will have 18 weeks in class followed by a work practicum.

To earn a certificate you must:

• maintain a 70% average in all credit courses and pass all of the non-credit courses that are in the program.

• must maintain a 90% or higher attendance record to achieve a pass in all credit courses.

Your course includes:

• employment preparation skills

• computer skills

• academic upgrading in math and English

• career planning and job search/job maintenance skills

• safety training including First Aid /CPR, Construction Safety Training System and WHMIS

• customer service skills through the Service Best Employee seminar

• life skills for coping in the workforce and managing employee/employer and co-worker dynamics

• hands-on work experience in the 4 week work placement

• a skills and interests assessment to identify potential career choices

• how to develop healthy support networks

• positive/effective strategies for dealing with change

• visits to a variety of workplaces and businesses

The program is broken into six parts:

1. self-development

2. academics

3. computer applications

4. career planning and job search

5. employment preparation skills

6. work practicum

The next program starts Sept 1, 2023 and runs to Jan 3, 2024.

Mandatory Program Orientation will be Aug 30 & 31, 2023. 

Classes run Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
