Lakeland's admission requirements are important. These standards are set to give you the best chance to reach your educational goal.

If you are not able to provide a high school transcript or are missing/deficient in one or more of the academic courses required for admission, you may still be able to take your chosen program by writing an entrance test in the required subject(s).

  • Successful completion of the entrance test(s) does not guarantee admission to a program. A seat must be available when you meet the requirement. If the program is at capacity, you will be added to the waitlist.
  • Veterinary Technology applicants are not eligible to entrance test. Admission to the program is competitive.
  • University Transfer applicants are only eligible to entrance test in English. If you intend to pursue a major with Math and/or Science requirements, you will need to enrol or upgrade. The Math and/or Science requirements can be completed prior to attending or while you are attending Lakeland.
  • Entrance test results are used for Lakeland College admission only.

Test types

Lakeland uses two types of entrance tests. Both are used to determine if you have the necessary academic requirements. The test used depends on the program you plan to take:

  • ACCUPLACER
  • Equivalency

These schools allow applicants to choose between ACCUPLACER and the Equivalency test for their programs:

  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Energy
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Fire & Emergency Services
  • Human Services
  • Interior Design
  • Pre-Employment Trades

These schools only accept the ACCUPLACER test for their programs:

  • Business
  • Health & Wellness
  • University Transfer

See the details below.

ACCUPLACER is used to test how ready you are to take college courses. All tests are online. Program placement scores for admission are based on the program's high school requirements.

As a bonus, ACCUPLACER has a study app and sample questions for each of its tests.

Lakeland College uses the following ACCUPLACER tests:
  • Next-Generation Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS)
  • Next-Generation Arithmetic
  • Next-Generation Reading

If you need a requirement for programs in these schools, you'll take an ACCUPLACER test:

  • Business
  • Health & Wellness
  • University Transfer

Lakeland College created high school course equivalency tests.

Applicants can choose one of three options:

  • challenge the test
  • review the content, then test
  • complete preparation modules, then test

If you'd like to review study and practice materials before the test, we've created optional academic preparation modules. The study and practice material is self-directed—you're in charge of your learning. However, navigation and support are provided.

The modules are:

  • free to access
  • online - using D2L. It's the same platform our students use
  • available anywhere you have an internet connection
  • self-paced

Available modules are:

  • Foundational Biology
  • Foundational Chemistry
  • Foundational English Language Arts
  • Foundational Math I (Basic Math)
  • Foundational Math II (Intermediate Math)
  • Foundational Math III (Advanced Math)
  • Foundational Physics
  • Foundational Science

Whether you're writing ACCUPLACER or a Lakeland equivalency test, your test will be online. You can choose where to write your online exam:

  • at the Lloydminster campus with the Learning Pathways Coordinatoor. Availability may be limited.
  • via ProctorU

There are fees associated with taking the test through ProctorU (approximately $30 - $50 USD).

After your special admission test

  • ACCUPLACER will be marked automatically and your results will be sent to Admissions
  • Lakeland equivalency tests will be marked within 3 - 5 business days and your results will be sent to Admissions

If requirements are not met through Special Admission, they must be met through an approved alternate route.

Test results are valid for two years.

Using an online proctor means you don't have to leave home and can schedule the test any time. While online test supervision offers you flexibility, there are also conditions:

  • To validate your identity as the test-taker, biometrics are used, such as having your picture taken or doing keystroke recognition. Have a government-issued photo ID ready.
  • You'll need to be in a private, quiet space. You have to prove it by panning your camera around the room.
  • You'll be monitored during your test - your proctor can see you and your computer screen.
  • Your test session will be recorded only for test adjudication.
  • The online proctor may ask if they can take control of your computer. This could be to help set up your computer for your test or provide technical support.
