Research with impact

Partnerships are the cornerstone of research at Lakeland.

Our applied research activities have

Thanks to significant grants from the governments of Canada and Alberta, Lakeland’s research team expanded in 2021. This means more research expertise, opportunities to collaborate and a broader range of projects that support producer-led research priorities.

Lakeland’s tactical focus for applied research activity is to advance real-world agricultural productivity and sustainability in key commercial crop and livestock sectors.

We work with industry leaders, government officials, and other post-secondary institutions to ensure that our research efforts are at the forefront of discovery.

Lakeland College has everything it needs to be a trusted research partner: dedicated research facilities, full-time research scientists, instructors with industry experience, and students eager to learn and try their hand at real-life problem solving.

Applied research actually came first in our history. Before there was a Vermilion School of Agriculture, there was a demonstration farm where the college was established. We have come a long way since then. Now, we have a dedicated research centre with multiple facilities on-site. At our research centre you can learn about crop research, energy research, and view environmental research projects in action.

For our students, our applied research programs mean their learning experience goes much deeper than hands-on classes. Lakeland is committed to pursuing applied research projects that enhance both teaching and learning as well as support regional economic development.
