Lakeland’s admissions requirements are important. These standards are set to give you the best chance to reach your educational goal.

If you don’t meet one or more of a program’s admission requirements, you may still be able to take your chosen program. Your path may be through special admission. For example: you meet all the other requirements, but don’t have a high school diploma. We may waive that diploma requirement. Or, if you are missing a necessary English, math or science, you may meet that requirement through an entrance test. Some conditions apply:
  • You aren’t automatically accepted if you get the needed grade level from an entrance test. A seat must be available when you’ve met the requirement.
  • No entrance testing for animal health technology as it's a competitive entrance program.
  • If you're applying to university transfer, you're only eligible for the English entrance test.
  • Test results are only used by Lakeland. If you want to transfer, they won’t be considered by another post-secondary.

Test types

Lakeland uses two types of entrance tests. Both are used to determine if you have the necessary academic requirements.
  • ACCUPLACER
  • Equivalency
Which test used depends on the program you plan to take. You may be able to choose between ACCUPLACER and equivalency testing if your program is in:
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Energy
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Fire & Emergency Services
  • Human Services
  • Interior Design
  • Trades & Technology

See the details below.

ACCUPLACER

ACCUPLACER is used to test how ready you are to take college courses. All tests are online. Its technology selects specific questions best suited for you and your requirements.

As a bonus, ACCUPLACER has a study app and sample questions for each of its tests.

Lakeland College uses the following ACCUPLACER tests:
  • Next-Generation Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS)
  • Next-Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions
  • Next-Generation Reading

If you need a requirement for programs in these schools, you'll take an ACCUPLACER test:

  • Business
  • Health & Wellness
  • University Transfer
Equivalency tests
Lakeland College created high school course equivalency tests.

You can challenge the test. Or, you have the option to do our academic prep courses.

These are offered in modules (units). You can review, study and practice before the test.

The modules are:
  • online - using D2L. It's what our students use.
  • self paced
  • available anywhere you have an internet connection
  • free
  • includes support from a facilitator. The facilitator doesn't teach, but can help you keep on track
Available modules are:
  • Foundational Biology
  • Foundational Chemistry
  • Foundational English Language Arts
  • Foundational Math I (Basic Math)
  • Foundational Math II (Intermediate Math)
  • Foundational Math III (Advanced Math)
  • Foundational Physics
  • Foundational Science 20/30
Online testing - requirements and costs
Whether you're writing ACCUPLACER or a Lakeland equivalency test, your test will be online. You can choose where to write your online exam:
  • at the Lloydminster Exam Centre. You'll have to book a spot well in advance.
  • via e-proctoring

While the tests are free - you will need to pay for using an exam centre or proctoring service.

e-Proctoring
Using an e-proctor means you don’t have to leave home and can schedule the test any time. While online test supervision offers you flexibility, there are also conditions:
  • To validate your identity as the test-taker, biometrics are used, such as having your picture taken or doing keystroke recognition. Have a government-issued photo ID ready.
  • You'll need to be in a private, quiet space. You have to prove it by panning your camera around the room.
  • You'll be monitored during your test – your proctor can see you and your computer screen.
  • Your test session will be recorded only for test adjudication.
  • The online proctor may ask if they can take control of your computer. This could be to help set up your computer for your test or provide technical support.
