College is more than just classroom activities.

Clubs provide a great way to connect with old friends and make new ones, pursue your interests and expand your horizons.

Lakeland has several clubs that students from both campuses can join.

Our club is a unique opportunity for students to plan a trip as a group and learn about the agriculture and history in a particular area.

The purpose of our trips is to learn more about agriculture there and compare practices. But you don't have to be an ag student to join our club.

Our trip is over the February break (also known as reading week). So it's a nice break in the middle of the second semester.

We choose the location. Part of our decision depends on what we are willing to spend.

In 2017 we visited Texas. We went to a livestock show, visited an alligator reserve, toured a crawfish/rice farm and experienced other ag related, as well as, other activities. Texas has been a tour spot before. As has Belize, our 2018 destination.

In previous years we've also travelled to California, Hawaii and Brazil.

This club lets you gain a deeper understanding of the diversity and opportunities that exist in agriculture.

The Animal Health Club is a student-led group that combines learning, fun, and community. Throughout the year, members participate in fundraising, social events, and volunteer opportunities, all leading up to an exciting trip over February break. Past trips have included destinations like the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, the Calgary Zoo, the Vancouver Aquarium, and specialty clinics.

The club also hosts activities such as potlucks, study nights, bowling, and SPCA visits, creating chances to connect with peers outside of class. Membership emphasizes teamwork, participation, and a supportive attitude, while offering opportunities to take on leadership roles and join committees within the club. Whether you are looking to gain experience, meet new people, or explore the field of animal health, this club offers a welcoming and engaging environment for all students in any program.

Meeting times are Mondays at 12:30 pm. If you're interested in joining, please contact a club advisor.

The Bison Club is all about adventure, connection, and discovery. Together, we explore the world of bison—from the pasture to the plate, and everything in between.

Members help plan fundraisers, road trips, and visits to bison farms, ranches, feedlots, and conservation areas. We also take part in industry conferences and hands-on workshops, giving you the chance to meet producers, experts, and other students who share your passion.

Whether you’re curious about livestock, wildlife, or just want to be part of something unique, the Bison Club is a great way to learn, travel, and build friendships outside the classroom. Come along and experience the bison industry up close—you won’t find a club quite like this one!

The Indigenous Student Council is an official Lakeland College Students' Association club. It consists of members from both campuses, with a circle director from each campus. The council meets biweekly in a hybrid format to discuss fundraising initiatives. These fundraising efforts support a year-end cultural trip, allowing members to explore and learn more about their identities together.

In addition to fundraising, the Indigenous Student Council plays an advisory role at Lakeland College. Lakeland College actively seeks their opinions and guidance on a variety of important matters, including convocation, ceremonies, cultural protocols, and other initiatives that impact Indigenous students and the college community. Their perspectives help ensure that events and practices are inclusive, respectful, and reflective of Indigenous cultures and traditions.

If you'd like to become a member of the council, please email indigenous@lakelandcollege.ca

Food and fun are two ways the International Club promotes cultural diversity.

These multicultural experiences are a way for international students to share their cultures and for the Lakeland community to learn.

Open to both international and Canadian students, the club also promotes and enhances awareness, cooperation and dialogue between students from different countries.

The club is also a formal way for the international student community to be represented at the college and surrounding communities.

Take advantage of the opportunity to hone your judging skills. We also welcome rookies and help you develop judging skills.

Our team meets weekly. We plan events, and we practice skills with our staff advisors and guest coaches from the industry.

We compete at college and university events throughout Western Canada. This includes the Canadian National 4-H and Youth Judging Competition at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan every November.

One of our members, Jess Verestappen, won the Grand Aggregate and a $2,500 scholarship in 2016.  We also plan and run the Western Canadian Judging Competition during Little Royal in March. We host both college and 4-H teams.

For over 40 years, rodeo has been a huge part of college life at Lakeland College.
We have one of the largest rodeo clubs—and, most successful teams—in Canada.

Every member of our competitive Rustlers rodeo team is a member of the club. But you don't have to compete in Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (CIRA) events to be a club member.

Along with the competitive team, club members practice during the week. Specific times are set for event practices in the Equine Centre.

The Rodeo Club also hosts barrel racing and team roping jackpots, and fun rodeos. These are open to all members and the public.

As well, the club hosts 2 Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association(CIRA)rodeos: The Fall Classic in October and the Little Royal in mid-March.

Each year the club also organizes clinics to help rodeo athletes improve their skills. These usually include bareback/saddle bronc, bull riding and bullfighter.

The club also runs the rodeo barn where club members and others can board their horses. Check the Rodeo Club Horse Boarding form.

Sheep

Learn how to care for, prep and show sheep — no experience required. This club is designed to be welcoming to all programs and students wanting to gain livestock experience.

We are flexible to focus on what members would like to experience, however, we usually take sheep to show at Agribition as a core focus in the first semester. We host a sharing clinic in the second semester.

Jump club

Also beginner friendly, we get together and jump our horses. Cowponies are welcome along with more experienced jumpers.

Depending on experience and desire, we can show or go out to the cross country course at Beaumont.

Stock dogs

We plan and participate in clinics at the college arena.

Other activities

  • tours of sheep, bison, horses and alpacas
  • attended the Toronto Royal sheep show and experienced Toronto city life
  • trail ride fundraiser
  • stockmanship clinic with Curt Pate
