Awards and Recognition
Lakeland recognizes the impact individuals have in their industry and communities through the distinguished alumni and distinguished citizen inductions.
We also recognize future alumni leaders through the President's Circle and generational alumni, those graduating students who have at least one of a parent, grandparent, great grandparent or further back, that attended Lakeland College.
Distinguished Alumni and Citizen
Lakeland annually recognizes one distinguished alumni and one distinguished citizen for their accomplishments.
Distinguished citizen criteria include:
- contributions to the community at large, a profession or discipline
- longstanding or exceptional merit which has advanced the college
- humanitarian or philanthropic contributions to society.
- recognition at the provincial, national or international level
Distinguished alumni recipients fall into one of two categories:
- graduates of more than 7 years who have reached outstanding career success and who models leadership and community service
- graduates of less than 7 years who have achieved a national or international honour, a major championship or appointment to high office.
Generation Alumni
Lakeland College is Alberta’s third oldest post-secondary institution, and many families share a proud Lakeland legacy.
At convocation, graduates are called generation alumni if their parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent also graduated from Lakeland.
These new graduates get a special pin to celebrate their family’s Lakeland connection.
President's Circle
President's Circle are recognized in their graduation year just before convocation. Launched in 2019, these young alumni are appointed based on their campus leadership. They receive a certificate and pin.
