Ready, Set, Go

Lakeland College is highlighting local talent in its first annual Best of the Border Hair and Makeup Competition on April 6 at the Lloydminster campus.

The competition showcases hairstyling and esthetician students, as well as journeypersons and makeup artists, who will put their creative expression to the test and compete to win cash prizes up to $500.

There are three categories to compete in:

  • makeup artistry
  • student/ apprentice hairstyling
  • journeyperson hairstyling (groups up to five are welcomed).

“We're excited to host this competition and showcase the amazing talent at Lakeland and in the surrounding community. It's an opportunity for anyone in the beauty industry to create together with a competitive edge. Not only will this competition be a fabulous experience, students and local professionals will also be able to network and establish connections,” says Deb Minish, chair of Lakeland's School of Health and Wellness.

Competitors will compete from 9 am until noon, and then unveil their work to a panel of judges from noon to 1 p.m.

Anyone interested in entering the Best of the Border Hair and Makeup Competition can register for $75 per category. Students can register for free with valid student ID. Lunch will be provided to all competitors and models, and competitors will receive a swag bag for participating.
