Lakeland College’s Emergency Training Centre (ETC) will be throwing open its doors to welcome the next generation of future firefighters
and first responders on Friday, Aug. 22 at the Fire and Emergency Services Program
Info Session.
“We know the ETC offers students the best training opportunities in Canada, and we’re excited to show future students what that means,” says Shawn McKerry, dean of the ETC. “From our live fire training facilities to our wildfire deployments, Lakeland students learn by doing. At our Program Info Session, we’ll show you how.”
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vermilion campus, with activities including:
- demonstrations on the training field
- tours of the facilities, campus and residence
- opportunities to connect with current students
- hands-on activities.
The ETC is one of Canada’s top training centres, with facilities including a smoke tower, dangerous goods pad, multi-level technical and industrial props, seven-storey burn tower, vehicle extrication props and more. Training meets or exceeds National Fire Protection Association standards. Programs include the emergency services technology fire or medical stream, firefighter training, the applied business degree in emergency services, as well as various professional, specialized and corporate training opportunities.
