Tinisha, a Lakeland alum, and previous Indigenous Student Council member (2016-2018) and is the manager of Indigenous support services. She works on both campuses. Tinisha’s family roots trace back to Treaty 5 Territory in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with strong connections to Cumberland House Cree Nation, Saskatchewan. Though she was raised in Lloydminster, she spent much of her childhood in Cumberland House at her grandparents' log cabin, immersed in the traditions of her community—watching Métis jigging competitions, voyageur races, and fishing.
A member of Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba, Tinisha now lives, hunts, works, raises her family, and practices her ceremonial life in Onion Lake Cree Nation, Treaty 6. She is on a journey to reclaim her language, a dedicated knowledge sharer, and has been given the title, okihcihtāwiskwēw.
Jazmyn’s journey began in Lloydminster, where she’s called home since she was six. Though she had an urban upbringing, her heart is deeply rooted in the traditions and teachings of her family from Onion Lake, SK. Growing up, the hockey rink was her second home. She spent countless hours honing her skills on the ice, proudly representing Treaty 6 at the Native Games and at The National Aboriginal Tournament in Ottawa.
Now, Jazmyn is passionate about passing down her Indigenous heritage to her two boys. She spends as much time as she can in Onion Lake, soaking up knowledge from her family and reconnecting to her culture. In the summer, you’ll often find her outdoors, taking her two boys, Hendrix and Van, on adventures to teach them about picking medicine and embracing their culture from her Mom's side. While she recognizes she has much to learn about the Indigenous culture, she is deeply committed to the journey of understanding. Her hope is that through this learning, she can better support students as they reconnect with their Indigenous roots and feel a sense of belonging.
I’m a proud Métis from Region 2 (District 12 Youth), born and raised in Elk Point, Alberta, with roots in Lac Ste. Anne. I’m a Lakeland College alum from the Child and Youth Care Counselling program and am now stepping into a full-circle moment as the Indigenous Wellness Advisor at Lakeland. As a student, I looked up to the person in this role, and now I get to be that support for others. I’ve spent summers at cultural camps, medicine walks, and storytelling gatherings—always learning, growing, and staying connected to my heritage. I’m passionate about keeping our traditions alive and sharing that with others!
Brooklyn is a member of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan. She grew up in Unity, Saskatchewan, and in 2021, she moved to Lloydminster to pursue her education in Lakeland College’s business program, graduating in 2023. During her time at Lakeland, she was an active member of the Indigenous Student Council. Alongside her studies, Brooklyn has been on a journey to reconnect with her Métis heritage, embrace traditional culture, and deepen her understanding of her roots.
