Agriculture Equine Continuing Education Courses
One-stop shop for a horse lover's education! We offer a wide variety of courses covering various equine topics. Whether you are looking to learn about hoof care, nutrition, Western or English riding, first aid, or how to get the perfect picture of your horse, we have it all!
Courses that Lakeland offers are outlined below. Check those you are interested in for a brief description and see if they are currently open for registration.
English Riding Group |
Whether you want to show at a fair or just develop skills for your own enjoyment, work with a like-minded group for 7 weeks. You'll have a knowledgeable facilitator but, weekly exercises can be determined by the group. All horse breeds welcome. So are all levels of riders. Please bring your own horse and tack. You’ll work on developing:

Equine Photography |
This workshop will provide you with tips, tricks and inspirations. It is not about the technical aspects of using your camera, but concentrates on time of day, lighting, color, action, and composition. Basic knowledge of camera use is required. Students need to provide their own camera. Horse Hoof Trimming |
This course will give you all the technical information you need to know, as well as the instructor's preferences, built on over 20 years experience being a farrier. You will leave feeling confident going home to trim and shoe your own horses. Bill Phipps is a full-time farrier based out of Marshall, Saskatchewan. He graduated from Lakeland College's former farrier program in the 1990s. Bill has been instructing the continuing education farrier courses for many years now. Topics include:

Horse Shoeing |

Ranch Horse Level 2 (Colt Starting/Calving practicum) |
Take the next step in your equine career with this hands-on practicum style course. In this hands-on course you will learn the methods of riding in a cow-calf operation and develop practical skills required to excel in the workplace. During this month-long riding course, you'll build on your horsemanship skills while starting a colt and gain riding experience during calving. Students are encouraged to bring 3 horses; one broke saddle horse and up to 2 colts. You are responsible for supplying your horse for the duration of the program, a maximum of 3 horses can be boarded per student. Each horse must be vaccinated with the following, within the last 6 months:

Western Ladies Riding Group |
Refine your skills, learn new disciplines or just come for fun with like-minded women. Every riding skill level and horse discipline is welcome. Bring your own horse for a 7-week evening session. Each session has 3 guaranteed cattle working nights. Topics covered include:
