Driver Training Continuing Education
Drive your future. Lakeland offers you Class 1 MELT and Class 3 for both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
We also offer weekly air brakes endorsement courses. Alberta students have the opportunity for testing.
Truck driver training is headquartered from our County Energy Park location, just west of Lloydminster. Our training always includes driver practice time.

Air Brake Endorsement
Learn to effectively operate and maintain air brake systems.
As a driver, you'll have the knowledge and skill to inspect your vehicle's brake system and ensure it's road worthiness.
This 12-hour course runs every Saturday (excluding long weekends) from 7 am - 7 pm.
Alberta students will learn theory in the morning, with practical training and testing to follow. When successful you'll have a Q added to your license.

Course length: 1 day Lakeland College reserves the right to cancel courses if enrolment is too low. Refund policy: 100% refund if you withdraw 2 full working days before your start date. No refund if you withdraw later than that. Appointments can be rescheduled at an additional cost of $150/hr. |
Alberta drivers |
Air Brake Endorsement (Q) is a mandatory part of getting Alberta Class 1, Class 3 or any air equipped motor vehicle (such as a motorhome) licence. Alberta also requires:

Saskatchewan drivers |
Saskatchewan also requires an air brake endorsement. There is also a written and practical test. Both are done through your local licensing office. Saskatchewan also requires:
While Saskatchewan students are welcome to attend, the practicum testing is not applicable. However, our course gives you an opportunity to learn from an instructor and practice. Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) - Class 1
Get your Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) - Class 1 for Alberta or Saskatchewan with one of our qualified instructors for hands-on, one-on-one training.
We also offer Class 3 training.
What we offer you:
- training in our Peterbilt tractors and 53 foot trailers
- pre-trip inspection and post-trip training
- coupling and uncoupling
- Lakeland College truck and trailer for pre-trip and road test
Before your road test, you must have:
- Air Brake endorsement (Q)
- Class 1 or 3 learner's permit
- commercial driver's medical exam (Class 1 only)
Course length: Scheduled per 4 hour appointment
Total hours: 121.5 hours (47 classroom hours; 17.5 in-yard and pre-trip hours; 57 drive time hours)
Cost: $150/hour + additional government fees
Delivery: on-site; Lakeland College, County Energy Park
Prerequisite: 18 years of age or older

Alberta MELT |
If you want a Class 1 (tractor trailer) or Class 2 (bus) licence, you are required to complete Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) to apply for their commercial driver’s licence. If you earned your Class 1 licence before Oct 11, 2018, you aren't required to do any upgrading. If you are a new driver, MELT includes 113 hours of instruction. Saskatchewan MELT |
