HS299 Clinical Experience is an in-person clinical experience. For questions or to explore additional options for completing the clinical experience, please contact the human services academic advisor.
Add new skills to your professional tool kit with Lakeland’s one-of-a kind animal assisted wellness program.
Our program is the first English college-level certificate in animal assisted wellness in Canada. Through the online post-credential program you can expand your professional practice.
Courses are offered online to provide you with flexibility.
- Part-time students can apply to start the program in the fall, winter or spring term.
At the core of the program is the animal-human bond. You’ll also cover:
- integration of animals into different settings
- law and ethics of animal assisted wellness
- counselling techniques
- animal wellness and behaviour
- animals in practice
You’ll learn from leaders in the field. One of those leaders, Eileen Bona, helped create this program. Bona is an animal assisted intervention pioneer in both services and education at the Dreamcatcher Animal Assisted Wellness Academy.
The final course of the program is a 3-day, in-person clinical experience. This experience takes place at Dreamcatcher Animal Assisted Wellness Academy, located in Ardrossan, Alta.

Online courses are delivered over 3 semesters - fall, winter and spring.

Online course information
Enrolment is the final step after you've been accepted.
- You will self-register in your courses.
- You can expect an email from the Office of the Registrar beginning one week before registration opens. It will include instructions on how to self-register and pay tuition using My Lakeland.
Please work with the academic advisor to develop a plan for the courses you want to take.

Notes:
- We recommend you start with YC 218 Animal Assisted Interventions.
- We recommend you limit registration to 2 courses if you are also working.
- Please check the course descriptions for pre and co-requisites.
- You must have successfully completed or be in the process of completing 9 AAW courses to register for HS 299 Clinical Experience.
