Create connections with individuals by supporting independent living within their community. You will learn about aging and diverse populations and may find employment in residential care settings or community-based support services.
Our community support practitioner program prepares you to support individual's needs.
Your courses will focus on:
- recognizing and advocating for additional services
- developing and maintaining relationships to support independence
- aging individuals care
- dementia care
- community advocacy and planning
- death, dying and bereavement
Your learning will be put into action with four 4-week field placements. You'll also have online components in this program. Learn more about blended programs at Lakeland.

Below is the list of the required year 1 and year 2 courses. Face-to-face courses are delivered over 2 semesters.
About field placements
You need a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) to be eligible for your field placement.
Your weekly class schedule can be found on your My Lakeland student portal when available. This is usually one month prior to the program start date.

Graduates from Lakeland's community support practitioner program are primed to make a difference in the lives of the people around them. They do this in many ways, often finding work in care facilities, rehab centres, resource centres and in independent homes.
