Community Mental Health

• If you aren't working in the field and need a field placement, you will be provided with instructions on how and when to request this when you register for your field placement course.
• You must be a minimum of 18 years old to request a criminal record check.
• Lakeland College can't place students on field placement without it. If you don't provide the documents, you will be withdrawn from the program.

• Students must be in good standing with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 to be eligible for their field placement.
• Students must be in good health, highly motivated, emotionally mature and stable. A high degree of tolerance and respect for the rights of others is required.
• A current First Aid in Childcare Certificate may be required.
• A Child Intervention Record Check (IRC) may be required.
• Students must be prepared to relocate to larger centres for work-integrated learning field placements.
• Students must have completed or be in the process of completing certain courses before they are eligible for field placements. Refer to the courses section or speak with your academic advisor.

Enrolment is the final step after you've been accepted.

• You will self-register in your courses.
• You can expect an email from the Office of the Registrar beginning one week before registration opens. It will include instructions on how to self-register and pay tuition using My Lakeland.

If you completed relevant courses at another post-secondary institution, you may be eligible for transfer credit. Apply for transfer credit at least 2 months before classes start by completing the transfer credit form.

If you are thinking about online learning with Lakeland College, here's what we expect from you. To:

• have access to a computer and high speed internet
• have a supported browser and browser tools
• have computer and web skills in order to do course work
• read and write in English as all of our courses are conducted in English
• commit to about 4 to 6 hours per week per course
• be prepared to submit course work and complete exams within the timelines provided

Most Lakeland College online courses will use Lakeland's learning management system, Desire2Learn or Microsoft Teams.

You aren't limited to a particular type of computer or smart device. But, you do have to have particular browsers and other software.

Most web platforms require:

• up-to-date web browsers including Chrome, Edge and Mozilla Firefox
• enabled cookies
• enabled JavaScript

If you aren't sure what any of those requirements are, do a quick systems check on the D2L page. It will tell you if your computer is set up properly.
