Agribusiness isn’t just a career path for someone with a rural background.
Expand your view of agricultural businesses through one of the streams in Lakeland’s agribusiness diploma.
Choose your focus:

You’ll start with a common first semester. This overview allows you to confirm or change your stream choice. You’ll dive deeper into your interest area over the next 3 semesters. As well, in 2nd year you'll choose between an agribusiness practicum and a business or case analysis project.
Whatever your stream, you’ll be learning beyond the classroom. This includes projects such as:

No matter the stream you choose, you'll start with exactly the same courses in your first semester.
You'll learn more about the many opportunities in agribusiness. This insight will help you confirm your stream choice, or maybe take you in a different direction within agribusiness. It's some built-in flexibility for you.
You will have more core courses, but from the second semester you'll focus on your stream.
That extends to your choice between an agribusiness practicum or business management and case analysis project.
Your weekly class schedule can be found on your My Lakeland student portal when available. This is usually one month prior to the program start date.

Your first semester at Lakeland will help you confirm your chosen stream, or find the best fit for your goals and dreams.
In particular, the Introduction to Agribusiness course, will expose you to the diverse directions you might take. You'll discover career paths and do sector analysis.
If you register in one stream, but are intrigued by another, you'll be able to change your focus going into the second semester.
Below, each stream is summarized in a few words with example career paths. Check the agribusiness courses and agribusiness jobs and career page for more information.

Finance
Focus on specific business and financial management practices and tools.
Career paths - farm succession planning, agricultural lending, agricultural accounting
Marketing
Manage product, price, placement and promotion to sell to and meet customer’s needs.
Career paths - agri-communications, product marketing and agricultural advocacy
Production
Apply business practices to crop, livestock and or mixed farm operations.
Career paths - crop/livestock farmer, ag retail sales and service such as animal nutrition, ag equipment sales, grain buyer
Double diploma at Lakeland
Spend another year at Lakeland and earn a second diploma. Agribusiness diploma graduates can earn a second diploma in animal science technology or crop technology in only one additional year. Alternatively, crop technology and animal science technology diploma graduates can earn their agribusiness diploma in only one additional year.
Degree at Lakeland
Enrol in Lakeland's bachelor of agriculture technology program. Keep ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving world of ag technology with this degree program. It offers real-world experience with the latest agricultural equipment, software, hardware and digital devices.
2+2 options = diploma and degree in 4 years
University of Lethbridge options include
- Bachelor of Arts in Agricultural Studies
- Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Studies
- Bachelor of Management in 7 different majors.
All are post-diploma degrees.
Note: 60 credits transfer; 2.5 GPA required.
University of Alberta options include a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural/Food Business Management.
Note: 54 credits transfer
Athabasca University offers the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Management (3 or 4-year degree), through Lakeland College, Lloydminster campus. Applicants need to have MGSC 301 or an equivalent course.
Agribusiness also transfers to AU's Bachelor of Human Resources/Labour Relations Post Diploma.
Olds College offers a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agribusiness.
University of Saskatchewan is currently negotiating changes to transfer block credits.

You need to know:
- Lakeland College is a member of Alberta's transfer credit system. If we don’t have a block transfer agreement, you still may be able to transfer credits. Visit the Alberta Transfer Guide (ACAT) website to learn more.
- If you are looking at an institution outside of Alberta, you'll need to check either directly with the institution or a provincial organization. Check out our transfer guide page for links.
- Transfers aren't guaranteed. You must met requirements, such as a minimum GPA, to be accepted.
