Our process and power engineering diploma allows you to earn a 4th class & 3rd class in two years.
Your first year includes:
- 4th class instruction
- 100 hours of lab work
- 1.5 month/240 hour practicum
Then, you'll be ready to write two ABSA provincial exams.
Second year begins with a 3 month/480 hour practicum, preparing you to learn 3rd class theory and write 4 ABSA provincial exams.
Power engineering is all about safely operating and maintaining boilers, turbines and engines. Your future job prospects aren't limited to the oil sector. You could work in:
- power generation
- chemical plants
- hospital and institutional power plants
When you finish our program, you can write ABSA's certification exam and begin your career.

Remember that studying includes other expenses than tuition and fees - you should
also be budgeting for your accommodation and living expenses. Alberta student loan
guidelines recommends $1,153/month.

Minimum number of students for any elective is 10.. You will be notified if the minimum number is not reached in your specific course choice.
Your class schedule, or when your courses are held during the week, can be found on your My Lakeland student portal when available. Usually, one month before your program starts.

Aug 12 — Semester fees due
Aug 26 —Registration day/classes begin
Sep 16 — Last day to drop courses. Last day to withdraw from college with full refund
less tuition deposit
Sep 30 — National Truth and Reconciliation Day, college closed
Oct 14 — Thanksgiving, college closed
Nov 1 — Last day to withdraw from term 1 (year 1 & 2) with W grade or change from credit to audit
Nov 11 — Remembrance Day, college closed
Dec 9 — Last day of term 1
Term 2
Dec 2 — Semester 2 fees due
Dec 9 — Last day of classes before break for year 2
Dec 10 — First day of term 2. • Year 1 practicum starts • Year 2 classes start
Dec 16 - Jan 6 — Year 2 Christmas break. Year 1 students are on practicum so no formal break.
Jan 12 — Last day to drop term 2 year 2 classes with full refund of fees
Jan 13 — Last day to drop semester 2 year 1 classes with full refund of fees
March 8 — Last day to withdraw from year 1 & 2 courses with W grade or change from credit to audit
Apr 15 — Practicum tuition due
Apr 18 - 21 — Easter break, college closed
May 2 — Last day of term 2 classes
May 5 - Aug 23 — Year 2 practicum starts
May 26 — Last day to withdraw from practicum with full refund
May 30 — Lloydminster Campus convocation
July 10 — Last day to withdraw from practicum with a W grade
Aug 11 — Semester 1 fees due
Aug 25 — Registration day / classes begin
Sep 15 — Last day to drop semester 1 courses. Last day to withdraw with full refund of fees less tuition deposit.

May 1 — Last day of term 2 classes
May 4 —Year 2 practicum starts
May 18 — Victoria Day, college closed
May 25 — Last day to withdraw from practicum with full refund

July 9 — Last day to withdraw from year 2 practicum with a W grade

You require a variety of books, personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies for your program. If you are in year 2, you may already have some of the items.

We recommend pre-ordering your textbooks as soon as possible. Once we sell out, it could be difficult to source more.

- Pan Global no longer sells textbook and supplies.
- The Lakeland College bookstore will stock textbooks.
- Avoid eBooks. The faculty recommends hard copies as highlighting and annotations are far easier to make and the books are easier to reference while taking online quizzes.
- All codes and regulations must be hard copies.

Take your Process and Power Engineering diploma to NAIT and earn a Bachelor of Technology degree. The program sets you up for take on a managemetn role.
Graduates must meet the competitive admission and selection requirements of the BTech program at the time of application.
